Singers must live within 1 hour of Joplin MO. as there is no compensation for this event, but you will be fed!

Holiday Studio Artist Carolers

Contracting 8 singers(preferably from MSSU & PSU) to sing acapella holiday songs at various events between Nov. 1st and Dec. 23rd, specific dates will be determined asap

Compensation is provided, singers must be within 1 hour of Joplin

2 required rehearsals at the end of October
Rigoletto in Concert

A single concert of Verdi’s opera, Rigoletto at Joplin’s Cornell Performing Arts Complex with full orchestra, sung in Italian.

Compensation is provided for all principal and secondary roles(chorus is not compensated)

May 22nd, 2026 at 7pm, singers will be expected to be available and arrive 5-6 days before the performance for rehearsals. Dress rehearsal will be May 21st. Housing will be provided for artists from out of town. Travel stipends can not be guaranteed at this time.

Requirements:
Singers auditioning for Rigoletto should prepare 4 pieces that showcase your unique voice and abilities. Songs should be from standard operatic and musical theater repertoire, art songs are acceptable if you are not auditioning for a mainstage role in Rigoletto.
To audition for the Gala or Holiday Artists only, please prepare two pieces from standard repertoire for your audition.
*Auditions are at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin MO. Please email heartlandopera@gmail.com with your resume and preferred date/time if needed. August 2nd 1-4pm or 3rd 2-5pm
*If you wish to be considered for a principal, secondary, or cover role in Rigoletto, one song must be an aria in Italian. Arias from the opera are encouraged but not necessary.
Principal Roles(housing provided if necessary): Rigoletto(baritone), Gilda(soprano), Duke of Mantua(tenor)
Secondary Roles(housing provided if necessary):Sparafucille(bass), Maddalena(mezzo-sop)
Other roles(no housing, possible cover of larger roles): Monterone(bari), Borsa(tenor), Marullo(bari), Ceprano(bass), Countess(mezz), Giovanna(mezzo), Usciere di corte(bass), Page(tenor/mezzo-sop)
